We stayed for four nights in October 2007 at the Grand Hotel Angiolieri in Seiano. We discovered the hotel on the internet and were really impressed so we booked via the hotel’s website. We had a lovely corner room with magnificient views across the Bay of Naples through to Vesuvius. Absolutely stunning. The room was very spacious, really beautifully appointed, and we were extremely comfortable. The maid service is swift and efficient and we didn’t lack for a thing. Breakfast was included in our room rate and we took full advantage of the buffet and the hot selection which you can order.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The beautiful lady on reception, Simone, was great and showed us around the hotel when we arrived and told us about all the facilities. We were there after the summer season so the hotel was very quiet and that suited us well.
The staff at breakfast were also very pleasant and filled any of our requests very quickly. We had dinner in the restaurant one night and again had very good service. The maitre d’hotel was a delight and recommended some good local wines that didn’t break the bank. The food was exceptional if somewhat pricey.
Location of the hotel is a little tricky to find but it is close the Seiano railway station, just a walk up the hill. We made good use of the Circumvesuviana and visited Sorrento and Pompei. By the way, go to Pompei, it is truly remarkable and so very interesting. Seiano is a little two dog town really but I imagine it would be busy during summer; good harbour and lots of camping areas. You do need to get your train tickets from the corner shop which is a tobacconist, a grocer, a coffee shop, and a video shop all rolled in together. The owner was very helpful and didn’t make too much fun of our stumbling attempts at Italian! Vico Equense is a larger town and has some very good restaurants including the ‘university of pizza’, worth a visit.
I would stay at the Angiolieri again. The actual building is gorgeous and the renovations and remodellings have been sympathetically done. It really has a luxurious feeling and there are some lovely little touches – 6th floor ‘glass’ walkway, the two lounge rooms, the beautiful balcony. It is far enough away from Sorrento to be away from the thronging mass of tourists but still accessible to all the Amalfi area. We loved it.
